Queen Victoria died in 1901 and the ornate styles of her period died with her (Tortora et al. 297). The rise of the twentieth century saw the beginning of much simpler fashions. The restrictiveness that was the major part of the period's costume lead to the need for less binding clothing. The absolute code of correct behavior, which characterized the period also died with its Queen. No other time period has seen such complex fashions as that of the Victorian Era. Many of the fashions, such as the tuxedo, which first became popular during this time period, remain fashionable today (Wrinkler). The Victorian Period was the true influence of the modern man's fashions, while the women's fashions changed considerably with the rise in feminism in the twentieth century.
