Spanish National Honor Society

Sponsor: Ms. Sandra Spann

La Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica is a national honor society for Spanish students who have successfully completed at least three semesters of Spanish with an A average. The American  Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese initiated this group and continues to sponsor it. The goals of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica are to promote the study of Spanish and to promote cultural understanding among its members and their schools.

We at East are the Jose Marti chapter, named for the famous Cuban writer and patriot. We initiate new members in the Spring with the National Honor Society. Students in Spanish 2 - 5 are eligible as long as they have an A average and plan to continue their Spanish studies.

Raising funds for charity by participating in the Rich Central Walkathon was one highlight of first semester. We also were pleased to decorate the Rich East hallways and the Park Forest Village Hall for Hispanic Heritage Month. Our members appeared in the Park Forest enews on line news paper because of our work at the Village. Next semester we will be sponsoring Open Gym in January to raise funds for an outing. We are also looking forward to receiving our t-shirts so we can represent our Sociedad on campus
